I am currently working on redoing this now since I don’t have it backed up, and will be adding to this list for a whole new post with more things included. I will have the new one up in a few days, until then I’m sorry for not backing up my content, and lesson learned!

This post was Great, but I have ended up having to completely redo it. This list contains all Post’s related to Trichotillomania I have created so far.

  1. I started when I was very little, I’ve taken medication for it, never worked, gloves never worked, when there is a will there is a way. Even thought of behaviour modification therapy. For the longest time I’d just shave my head when I’d have an episode and wear wigs. But shaving wasn’t the answer it was a quick solution. Currently my hair is the longest it’s ever been in years. My thought processes is pulling just isn’t going to win anymore. And Ive been lucky I haven’t had any episodes as of late. I know that at any given time the devil I call Trich can come and show its ugly face but at the moment he hasn’t been around. I wish you much luck in fighting it. Great post and oh so very true on every level. I too suffer from OCD and skin picking ugh. My trick if I notice my hands playing with my hair a lot is to wear a turban cap or clip all my hair up. Those two methods have worked for me the past year. My goal is to grow my hair as long as I possibly can. So far so good. Cheers

  2. Unfortunately people can be bad when they don’t understand something….i prefer to say they are stupid…but who am I to judge. Head up and don’t mind them.

  3. TO be honest, I’ve never heard of trich until I read your post. It is very enlightening, especially since I am ignorant on the subject. I am sorry that there are idiots in the world who find it hard to think before saying stupid things like “Stop”. Saying “stop” usually makes it worse and that’s with any disorder or physical ailment.

  4. I love that you were willing to share this. I’ve only recently started reading about trich, but I find all mental issues interesting. Good for you for sharing with people what your life is like.

  5. I think no matter what difficulty someone is facing, there will always be a barrage of people waiting to give their advice and opinions rather than their support. My husband has cancer, and I had to write a similar blog directed at cancer cures and guilt trips. It was equally well received. I think that’s because so many people have gotten inappropriate responses to what they are dealing with.

    1. People really just don’t think before they speak. I think that may be why I like the internet so much, if they had time to write it they should have been able to think about it first. Of course that’s still not always the case ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    1. Thank you, I’m actually surprised how many people have said this to me. I know that this topic is almost never talked about, but with the amount of people that share their journey through this disorder on youtube, you would think it would have had a bit more awareness than it does still.

    1. Well my hope was to raise awareness, and it looks like that’s started to happen! I suffer from OCD as well, it just ties into this for me. Glad you were still able to relate to this.

  6. Thank you. I now have a better understanding what is going through my 9th grade daughter’s head. We’ve tried it all, done it all and I think that only makes things worse. You and her just want to be left alone about it

    1. It’s not that I want to be left alone about it, more or less would just like people to have a better understanding of what it is we go through. And that there are certain ways to go about seeking treatment options, rather than giving us negative thoughts

  9. I may not understand the pulling part of it, but I do understand what it’s like to have a disorder that people don’t understand. I have major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder and even those which are very common now days, it’s still considered shameful by a lot of people. I think the moral of the story is that you shouldn’t make judgments on something you’ve never experienced.

  10. What a great, encouraging post! This could be applied to so many things. – People who deal with depression, anxiety, weight issues, etc.

When people truly don’t understand their ignorance shows in comments like these. They simply don’t think before they speak.

Thank you for speaking out and reminding others to think before they speak!

    1. Thank you! I do have depression and anxiety as well, so I can see how this would fall into those categories also. It really does amaze me sometimes with the things some people say, and you can clearly tell they didn’t think about it at all before speaking.

  11. At least you have embraced it and you know what’s wrong. I really don’t like it when people are rude about things life that. Like telling you to stop will just fix it, people have no idea.

    1. Unfortunately this is something that’s actually best when left alone for the most part. Talking about it calmly, and when there isn’t other people around is best. The worst thing would be to say something in front of a group of people because most times it’s not understood.
