Subscription boxes are talked about all the time, by various people who all have their opinions on what their favorite boxes are. Most of us are guilty of watching unboxing and review videos, or reading posts about what people got in their box this month. But what draws us to these subscriptions in the first place? Sure they all have catchy ads, and people are really good at talking them up online. For the most part, the reason many love them is the fact that you never know what you’re going to get. The surprise in it makes it more interesting, because who doesn’t love a good surprise every now and then?

The best part? Most are monthly subscriptions, so you get a new box of goodies delivered to your door every month! Some boxes, like birchbox, allow you to peek at what you’re getting that month, or let you choose one of the samples you’ll receive. This could initially ruin the surprise factor though, but hey, maybe you just like the deals you get and it’s not about the surprise anyway. I’m guilty of peeking in on my boxes a few times already to.
I’ve tried quite a few different subscription boxes, but my 2 current favorites would have to be birchbox, and fabfitfun. Birchbox is monthly, and FabFitFun is seasonal, so you only get 4 boxes a year.
Birchbox—
This monthly subscription box comes with five samples, most times they are sample sizes, but you do occasionally get a full sized product also. Most times it’s eyeliner if it’s full sized. For $10 a month, this box includes items from top brands and they tailor the box to your preferences. Each box is customized by your profile, so you will get items from the categories you choose when signing up, so if you list that you have dry skin you’ll receive products for that skin type.
This month I was happy with every product they sent me, my favorite being the face wash/mask. It smells amazing and left my skin feeling extra soft. The lip stain is from The Balm, and its a very cute and subtle color for spring. I have yet to try the other products I received this month, but will update on how they did when I do.
FabFitFun—
This would have to be my all time favorite. Not only because it is nothing but full sized products, but also because it’s more than just beauty items. For $50 each season you get a full box of goodies, that are all full sized! When singing up for the first time, you can land some even better deals. For instance, they just ran a promo for the free fruit infusion water bottle and $10 off your first box. My spring box was worth $282!
The value of this box makes it worth it every time, and makes me impatient for the next season each time because it leaves me wanting more! (and no, I’m not saying I’m not satisfied by my box because I definitely am) I can’t wait to try the contour pallet for the first time, this will be my first attempt at contouring. They even sent $55 in gift cards this month. Overall, if I ever had to limit myself to only one subscription for my guilty pleasure, this would be the one!

Everyone says that Birchbox was the starting point for monthly beauty subscriptions, however Cosmetique has been around since the 70s (called World of Beauty then). I was a Cosmetique member in the 80s and early 90s and it was so much fun to get new makeup kits of full size products every month. I only stopped when money became an issue. I was shocked to find out last year that they were still around so I resubbed. Then I discovered Ipsy, Birchbox and the others. Now I’m a junkie and subscribe to 10 different subscriptions of beauty and food.
I don’t know why I don’t see more unboxings from this company on You Tube. They get virtually no love, but have been around WAY longer than Birchbox

Thank for the insight! I had no idea about that one but will definitely have to check it out. Money has been extremely tight for my family lately so I’ve had to do away with most of mine for the moment. And only sub to fabfitfun at the moment because that one’s not monthly and gives me more time to save up the money for it. I also enjoy full sized products and was getting tired of some of the small samples I’ve been getting with birchbox lately.

I used to have a subscription to Curl Box. It was a hair product subscription box until I fell in love with one of the lines. Now I’m on Scent Bird.

That’s so interesting, I had no idea about these box companies! Oh jeez where have I been LOL.
I love getting stuff in the mail, magazines and catalogs when I lived in California but now I’m in Spain the magazine subscription thing is not a regular thing so I’ll check out some European box companies. Thanks guys. β€

Sometimes it just takes some extra searching, I checked out every subscription before I thought about purchasing it, and always found reviews like this helpfull. So now I’m happy to help others with their selections as well!

They are great for traveling, I often put my favs each month right into my beauty bag in my purse π Birchbox was the first subscription box I ever signed up for, and one of the only ones I didn’t cancel! Fabfitfun is great though and I couldn’t see myself canceling either anytime soon π

I like the review. And although I don’t think I’d be much interested in most of the beauty items (being a guy) I know there are other subscription boxes that cater more towards things that appeal to me. What you have done, is sparked an interest in me checking out the subscription boxes that are out there and seeing how it goes!

Well I’m glad I was able to do that! Thank you π
Birchbox actually has a men’s section as well, although I’m not 100% sure what all goes in it. Subscription boxes are definitely fun, good luck on your search π

I love them for sure, it really just depends on the type of products you want to get surprised with. Fabfitfun will probably always be my favorite just because of the amount of stuff, quality, and it being full sized π
